Mark began his career in 1985 at the age of 21. As of November 2022, he will have been in the Real Estate Brokerage Business for 37 years.

​

He initially worked as a top-producing sales executive for 7 years at his firm. After this time, he was offered a training position while still selling real estate full-time. Just 8 months later, he accepted a full-time leadership position, taking over the lowest-performing office in the company.

​

Within 3 years, Mark had transformed the office into the most productive branch in the company. He was then promoted to General Manager, and 18 months later, he became a partner in the firm after one of the partners was bought out. At that time, the company had around 350 agents and was the market leader.

​

Over the next several years, Mark continued to grow the company, but he noticed that the industry was starting to change. In 2001, with valuable feedback from his agents, he transformed his company from a traditional real estate firm into a business service company. The new mission was to help sales executives grow their brokerage, which is now called a team in the industry, under the umbrella of Mark's firm. Whether it was a brokerage of one agent or 21 agents, Mark's team helped sales executives grow a healthy, productive, and profitable company.

In 2004, Mark purchased the remaining shares in his company, becoming the sole owner. Three years later, the real estate downturn presented Mark with his biggest business challenge to date. His mezzanine lender was attempting to take over the company, and the Las Vegas marketplace underwent significant changes, with the average sales price dropping from $425,000 to $125,000 in just a few months. Foreclosures and short sales reached an all-time high.

Fortunately, Mark's flexible business service model and support enabled his sales executives to quickly adapt and capture market share from their competitors. Mark won his case against his mezzanine lender, positioning him to go on a growth spree. He took over companies in his own marketplace and acquired or opened businesses in two other states, AZ and CA.

By 2011, Mark's firm was growing rapidly, earning him the distinction of being one of the fastest-growing companies in the real estate industry. As of 2020, Mark's firm had become the 19th most productive company globally for all brokerages everywhere.

In mid 2020, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Marks franchisor purchased his company. Which at that time was over 3,000 sales executives doing more than $9.5 Billion in sales volume and over $247M in closed commissions annually.

Jimmy Burgess is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida located in Northwest Florida.

Over his 30-year career, with 25 years as an agent and team leader he has in excess of $500M in closed sales volume. He moved into an executive position five years ago and since that time the company has moved from 75 agents to over 270 agents today. During that time the company's annual sales volume grew from $600M to over $2.1B.

Jimmy Burgess has been recognized the last two years by Swanepoel as one of the 200 most influential and powerful people in real estate and he writes a weekly real estate business tip article for Inman news where he has been recognized as their most read contributing writer each of the last two years. He has a YouTube Channel with over 500 real estate business strategy videos, and he is the Cohost of the Real Estate AI Flash Podcast.
